Why is Comprehension Important?

Good comprehension is the key to both reading enjoyment and success in school. Readers with strong comprehension are able to follow story development, recognize main events, and predict outcomes. They enter into the world of a book, identifying with the characters and creating mental pictures of the story.

How Does This Program Build Comprehension?

This program builds students’ comprehension through guided discussions about books that focus on character and story development. As students participate in these discussions, they learn to identify what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of each story. Being able to recognize this simple story structure will help your child pick out the main events in a story, understand how these events fit together, and remember what happened. As a result, you son or daughter will enter second grade with stronger comprehension.
